F . K The Man & The Myth by Victor Lasky (New York: The Macmillan Co., 1963); The Art of the Theater by Sarah Bernhardt (London: Geoffrey Bles, undated); and The Times We Had : Life with William Randolph Hearst by Marion Davies (New York: Bobbs-Merrill Co., 1975). The family notes: Brian Aherne and his wife Eleanor were close friends. They lived on Beekman Place- about 2 blocks away from Garbo's apartment. Gustaf Molander was also a friend and mentor. Molander was head of the Swedish Royal Dramatic Theatre School when Garbo attended and he recommended her for her breakout role as Countess Elizabeth Donha in Mauritz Stiller's Gösta Berling's Saga ( Svensk Filmindustri , 1924 ). Marion Davies and William Randolph Hearst were friends. Garbo visited San Simeon several times.
