A framed limited edition silk cachet First Day Cover printed by the Gateway Stamp Company to commemorate the first day of issue of the Thomas Jefferson United States postage stamp in 1993. Mikhail Gorbachev gave a speech at Monticello to honor the 250th anniversary of Jefferson's birth and the issuance of the stamp. The envelope features original artwork by Bill Perry printed on silk, the Thomas Jefferson stamp, and a Charlottesville, Virginia, postmark dated April 13, 1993. The envelope was signed in the presence of consignor Harlan Werner by former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev in black ink. Years later, Werner had Baseball's all-time hits leader, Pete Rose, sign the envelope "From 1 great Red to another/ Pete Rose," making this the only known example of the envelope featuring the two signatures. Numbered "292/1000" for the Gorbebachev signed edition. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Gateway Stamp Company. 16 by 13 inches, overall PROVENANCE From the Collection of Harlan Werner Categories:
