Although already a deadly spirit and sorcerer in his own right, by the time of the Second Age Sauron had channeled his evil will and his malice into a single device, the One Ring, that increased his power and the threat he presented to Middle-earth many times. When he appeared upon the battlefield to face the Last Alliance of Elves and Men, he wore the ring upon a heavy gauntlet, integrated into his armor and of the same sinister design. It was only when Isildur, the last King of Gondor, managed to sever the finger of this gauntlet that bore The One Ring, with the broken hilt of his father’s sword that Sauron was finally defeated and forced to abandon physical form completely. This hero prop metal gauntlet was hand-made and weathered by the skilled craftsman at Weta Workshop during the production of The Lord of the Rings trilogy (New Line Cinema, 2001, 2002, 2003). An incredible feat of engineering and of artistry, the gauntlet consists of more than 30 articulated pieces of real metal with intaglio acid-etched detailing that are attached to a leather glove. Despite it's menacing and mechanical appearance, the skill utilized in its construction allowed complete freedom of movement to actor Sala Baker, and led to one of the most iconic images filmed for the Trilogy, that of Sauron reaching down to crush the felled Isildur. This prop was part of a collection of authentic production-created movie props procured by official New Line Cinema licensee, United Cutlery directl
