A Rick Griffin artist's proof and lettering sketches for his 1967 Psychedelic Shop poster. This was the first poster Griffin created. Text on the poster reads "The New Improved Psychedelic Shop featuring The 1st Anniversary Jook Savage Art Show." This framed artist's proof is from the second printing of the poster. Printed at lower right is "Distributed by (c) Berkeley Bonaparte 1967." Griffin was briefly in the Jook Savages band prior to moving to San Francisco and devoting himself to art instead of music. Accompanied by three lettering studies done later for The Psychedelic Shop, two of which are framed together. The Psychedelic Shop, located on Haight Street in San Francisco, is cited as the first "head shop" in the United States.
