A costume worn by Jamie Foxx in his Academy Award-winning role as Ray Charles Ray (Universal, 2004). The costume consists of a sport coat, button-down shirt, and black pants. The spotted charcoal grey sport coat was tailored by David A. Hawkins, whose label is sewn inside the left breast pocket. The light pink dress shirt, made by Venice Custom Shirt Makers, has a handwritten label sewn inside the collar that reads “#3” and a smaller tag embroidered “Mar.03.” The black slacks are vintage 1950s pants made by Buccaneer Slacks. The ensemble was worn in the scene where Foxx and Regina King as Margie are caught kissing while walking down the hall together by his current girlfriend, Mary Ann Fisher, played by Aunjanue Ellis. The shirt was also worn in the scene where Ray notifies his first record label that he is going to leave. Ray received multiple wins and nominations at the 2005 Academy Awards. Among these, Foxx received an Oscar for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, and Sharen Davis received an Oscar nomination for Best Achievement in Costume Design.
