The pair were married in Las Vegas at Temple Beth Shalom by two rabbis and signed on the certificate by Rabbi Bernard Cohen. The witnesses who signed the certificate are Joseph Fisher; Jack Entratter, president of the Sands Hotel; and Michael Todd Jr., son of Michael Todd, who was married to Elizabeth Taylor until his death in 1958. The scandal of Taylor and Fisher's wedding, only three and a half hours after his divorce from Debbie Reynolds was finalized, affected both Taylor's and Fisher's careers and kept the pair in gossip columns and newspaper headlines. Fisher was considered a pariah for leaving America's Sweetheart, Debbie Reynolds, and their two children. Elizabeth Taylor was considered a home wrecker by the gossip columnists of the day.
