Oil on canvas painting with a horizontally-alligned landscape with poplars on the front (signed J. Mannheim lower left) and a vertically-alligned figural scene of two women on the back. Lush landscape with two small figures standing at center. A large mountain looms in the background. The landscape is likely a California scene. Figurative work on back shows two women in brightly colored garments seated in a decorated interior. The face of the woman on the right is fully composed---she is looking down at what could be a needlepoint or other hand craft. Her female companion is only roughly sketched out. Signed lower left. Stretcher inscribed "The property of Mrs. Jean Mannheim from her husband Jean Mannheim." Frame marked "RICHARD TOBEY LOS ANGELES". Contained in gilt wood frame. Framed 26.75 inches x 30.75 inches. Unframed 20.25 inches x 24.1 inches. Provenance: Greenhouse Gallery of Fine Art, San Antonio, Texas to a private collection in Atlanta, Georgia.
