Oils and acrylics on fiberglass. 10 by 3 1/2 feet Shyama Golden My first love has always been drawing, but in 2004 I earned a BFA in graphic design at Texas Tech University, where I also studied screen-printing and illustration. This training opened my eyes to a new sensitivity for design and typography, which has been a major influence on my art. I work fast, but usually spend more time at the brainstorming stage than execution. Once I can visualize something in my mind, bringing it into the material world is the easy part. Whether I’m using oils or a Wacom tablet, my idea of a successful piece is one that rewards the observer with some unexpected detail or takes the concept further than what first meets the eye.
