A Royal purple silk Kimono with hand painting. Worn by Midler as she attended the 52nd Annual Academy Awards ceremony where she was nominated as Best Actress for her performance in her 1979, 20th Century Fox film, The Rose . "In the days before stylists, people either looked to the studio or pulled things out of their own clothes. The white dress I'm wearing under the kimono, made by Madame Gres, was my first foray in to Paris fashion and the kimono was my own, the color of which I just adored. What a wonderful night, even though I didn't win. Note the delicate jade bangles, which are also in this sale (lot 67). I never tire of saying that Sally Field has my Oscar!" - Bette Categories: Bette Midler
