Steve Kaufman (American, 1960–2010). A ceramic bowl depicting Superman and Muhammad Ali facing off in the ring and painted by former Andy Warhol assistant Steve Kaufman. Signed “SAK” in lower right area and framed in a shadowbox. Written on the back in black marker, presumably by Kaufman, “I’ve met Ali in 95 & I worked with WB at that time & mixed both of my loves/ Steve” and “This plate was in my home back 1995.” Believed to be a one-of-a-kind piece, it is particularly timely in light of DC Comics’ recent reissue of the 1978 comic book “Superman vs. Muhammad Ali” and the 2010 passing of Kaufman.
