Sold for:
$38,400

A deep navy blue suit coat and pants once belonging to Charlie Chaplin. At the suggestion of good friend, Douglas Fairbanks, Sr., Chaplin had this suit made in the summer of 1952 at London's Stovel & Mason for formal occasions such as receptions and premieres and was worn when Chaplin was presented to Princess Margaret at the London premiere of Limelight (Celebrated Films Corp. / United Artists, 1952). Chaplin wore the suit when he played royalty himself as King Shahdov in A King in New York (Charles Chaplin Productions, 1957). The suit jacket has tails, 2 buttons in back, 6 in front and 4 on each cuff. Accompanying the suit is a white cotton formal shirt from Albion House, white bow tie and white vest.
