BANKSY British GRAFFITI RAT, CIRCA 2002 Aerosol on drywall Approximately 83 by 31 inches A black aerosol stencil depicting a rat with a paintbrush in hand having just scribbled a meandering black line across the wall. This piece was executed by Banksy in the kitchen of the apartment where he crashed in 2002 during “Existencilism,” his first Los Angeles exhibition. The painting was featured in Banksy’s own publication of definitive works Wall and Piece as well as the little black book Cut It Out . The published photograph from Wall and Piece (shown in images to the left) depicts “Graffiti Rat” perched above a gas stove with a bottle of Bombay Sapphire gin on the counter inside Banksy's temporary Hollywood residence before removal.
