A mixed medium costume rendering of the character Don Jose de Marana/Don Juan de Marana portrayed by John Barrymore, created for the silent film Don Juan (Warner Bros. , 1926). The image, signed “Leon Anthony,” depicts Don Jose wearing a black velvet doublet, tunic, cape, black leather boots, and hat with red feather plume. The bottom of the rendering includes the artist’s signature, the film title, and the Western Costume green stamp. The bottom right corner also includes number “35.” The sheet is adhered to the original illustration board. Don Juan featured an iconic cast of actors, including Mary Astor, Myrna Loy, and Montagu Love. This was one of the first feature-length silent films that was synchronized with Vitaphone sound effects and musical soundtrack.
