UNTITLED (DJ & CRANE), 1999 Hand-painted acrylic and aerosol on wood Stencil signed vertically to upper right “Banksy” 24 1/4 by 23 7/8 inches PROVENANCE Stephen Earl, Banksy’s Manager Acquired from the above by the present owner AUTHENTICATION Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Pest Control Request a Condition Report Sign Me Up To Phone Bid! This rare and original aerosol by the elusive and anonymous graffiti artist is representative of Banksy’s early career. Banksy produced album covers and artworks for an active subset of musicians including Blur, Röyksopp , One Cut, The Capoiera Twins, Skitz, Monk & Canatella, and Blak Twang to name a few. Prior to placing the stencil on wood, this same stencil appeared several times on the streets of Bristol and London. Examples can be found documented in Banksy's books Banging Your Head Against a Brick Wall (UK, Weapons of Mass Disruption, 2001, pg. 40); Banksy: Wall and Piece (UK, Century, 2005, pg. 21); and Banksy’s Bristol: Home Sweet Home by Steve Wright (UK, Tangeant Books, 2009, pg. 3). Like his other subversive images which challenge the political and status quo Untitled (DJ & Crane) is not without Banksy’s tongue in cheek charm. The stencil depicts a disc jockey or DJ with decks who looks skyward toward a looming
