Mexico, 1934 charcoal on rice papercharcoal on rice paper 14½ h x 10½ w in (37 x 27 cm)
Signed and dated 'D.
Rivera 34' upper left. Framed.
The following four works come from the collection of Rose Alschuler of Highland Park, Illinois. A consumate collector, Rose Alschuler had personal relationshiops with many of the artist's she collected. These drawings were acquired directly from Diego Rivera in Mexico City in the late 1930s. Rose visited Rivera more than once, and her sister Marian had her portrait painted by Diego during one visit. The works on paper show Rivera's fluid approach to image-making, and clearly illustrate his admiration for the worker, the foundation of any Marxist ideology. The four works presented here have remained in the Alschuler Family collection since their acquisition, and are available to the market for the first time. more
