Russel Wright, Inc. USA, c. 1930 chrome-plated metal 8 w x 2¼ d x 3¾ h in (20 x 6 x 10 cm)
Inspired by Wright's work in theater design, the Circus Series of fantastical creatures grew out of papier-mache props Wright created for the stage. Cast in metal beginning in 1928 they mark Wright's first foray into decorative arts. This rare sculptural bookend is one of only four known examples.
