Animas figures, pair
Mexico polychromed wood 5½ dia x 12½ h in (14 x 32 cm)
result: $5,000

These figures represent the concept of ‘Anima Sola’ literally translated as ‘lonely soul’ and are renderings of souls in Purgatory.
The doctrine of Purgatory or ‘purification by fire after death’ has its roots in India, Persia and Egypt as well as ancient Greece and Rome. It is from the Greeks in Palestine that this concept infiltrates into Judeo-Christian beliefs. - David Cruz
