Saridis of Athens United Kingdom / Greece, 1961 Greek walnut, leather 22 w x 22 d x 16½ h in (56 x 56 x 42 cm)
Robsjohn-Gibbings designed at least seven versions of the Diphros, with design details ranging from rounded to square.
This is one of the most formal examples with a columnar leg which flattens out at the foot, and is capped by a large circular head. In only a few of the stool designs does Robsjohn-Gibbings utilize the webbed thong design seen here. The thongs are looped around the stretchers and threaded through the adjacent hole. The effect is a tightly patterned grid inset from the outer edge. Labeled with a brass plaque.
