Germany, 1920s macassar ebony, brass 53 w x 19½ d x 39½ h in (135 x 50 x 100 cm)
Early in K.
E.M. Weber's career, he was commissioned to create this sideboard for the von Braun family of Berlin Germany. The von Braun family is widely known today due to the space exploration efforts of the physicist and engineer Wernher von Braun, who built the V-2 rocket during the war and later worked for NASA. Mr. von Braun was instrumental in bringing about the lunar landings of 1969 and the early 1970's. The detailing on this cabinet is of note for the choice wood, and brass fittings. The original key features K.E.M. Weber's monogram. Sold with a certificate of provenance. Provenance: von Braun family collection, Berlin, Germany; von Sachsen family collection; Dr. Theophana von Sachsen, Princess of Saxony, by decent; acquired from the above by the present owner.
