Børge Christoffer Nyrop (Danish,1881-1948), "Farmer Walking on Rural Dirt Road with Horse Drawn Wagon", oil on canvas. Signed lower right "B. NYROP". Painting depicting one of Nyrop's signature scenes of working agricultral life and landscapes with a male farmer standing on the side of an empty wagon with two horses on a serpentine winding dirt road on a sunny day. Windmill, scattered trees and numerous billowy clouds in sky. Framed 39.5" x 49.25". Unframed 34" x 43.5". Verso of stretcher and frame with Knud Juhllns stamp. Note: Nyrop studied at S. and G. Vermehren's private school, graduated from Kunstakademiet (the Royal Academy of Fine Arts) in Copenhagen, Denmark, and in 1907 continued his education in Paris under L. Simon. He went on further study tours to Italy, Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium. Borge Nyrop received Soedring's prize in 1907 and Neuhausen's prize in 1911 (both private distinctions). He exhibited for more than 30 years at Charlottenborg mostly with landscapes but also with portraits and labor motifs. Beside Denmark and France, Nyrop traveled and worked in Italy, Germany, Belgium and The Netherlands. Nyrop is best known his rural farm scenes and detailed naturalist landscapes from the west coast at Jutland. A Nyrop painting "Paris in the Spring" sold for $31,701 at Sotheby's, London in 1998.
