Bamoun African bronze statue; measures approximately 22" tall and 11-1/2" wide to base. The Bamum, sometimes called Bamoum, Bamun, Bamoun, or Mum, are a Bantu ethnic group of Cameroon with around 215,000 members. Bamum social life was oriented toward the conquest of surrounding chieftaincies, and forays were made into neighboring lands: from this stems a warrior mythology and an abundance of material symbols of strength. The Bamum produced large and smaller sized figures encrusted with beads and cowries.
