Modified French Provincial Bench, purchased in Caracas, Venezuela in the mid-1950s by United States Diplomats stationed there at the time; originally a bench, but was later modified to add a back and sides to be used as a sofa; back rest is detachable and has panel cushions; base was originally gilt, and has been refinished; back and sides due to peg construction would have been made in early-mid 19th century; lovely swag carvings to sides and legs; measures approximately 32-1/2" in tall to top of back, 20" tall to top of seat, 85-5/8" wide, and 30" deep; some scratches and dinks consistent with age and usage.
