Carlus Dyer abstract etching "Fugues & Fissions III"; marked to lower left "Artist's/1", titled to bottom middle, and signed to bottom right "Carlus Dyer 1956"; measures approximately 27" x 18-3/4" with frame and has a sight image of approximately 26" x 17-3/4". A painter, lithographer, educator and museum professional, Carlus Dyer grew up in Long Beach, California and was active there as a WPA artist in the 1930s. The remainder of his career was in New York City and Ridgefield, Connecticut. From 1940 to 1951, he was a designer of exhibitions and publications for the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. From 1953 to 1980, he was Director and Curator of Exhibitions for the Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art in Ridgefield, Connecticut. He was also an Instructor of painting, drawing and printmaking at the Silvermine Guild School of Art in Silvermine, Connecticut.
