Duncan Smith "The Witch of Atlas" Relief Duncan Smith "The Witch of Atlas" oil over relief framed painting depicting fantastical scene of various mythological and real animals; signed in print to lower right; measures approximately 77-1/2" x 47-1/2" with ornately gilded frame and has a sight image of approximately 71-1/4" x 41-1/2"; with exhibition label to back including title; painting has descended down in artist's family. Duncan Smith's paintings are diverse - some are rendered in supra-realism, while others are abstract and tactile. Mediums include oils, mixed media and a variety of sculptural materials. He has worked as a primary and secondary school art teacher as well as a primary school principal for several years. He has also been extensively involved in Art tutoring/therapy. Duncan is a member of NZ Academy of Fine Arts. He paints from his tranquil oasis in Paraparaumu, where he enjoys his art gallery and studio, Chinese water-gardens, a Monet-pond and native bush.
