Modern crushed red leather, raised spine richly tooled and gilt lettered, covers with triple-line fillet border, spine and board edges all gilt, and turn-ins with intricate gilt roll of dentelles. All edges gilt. In a custom felt-lined slipcase with marbled sides matching the endsheets, and matching leather trim. Woodcut devices on first and second title pages, full-page woodcuts of monuments and sepulchers by Jean Rabel. Floriated initials. 8vo. Ex-libris E. Delicourt. Fine. While mainly devoted to the archaeological and architectural antiquities found in Paris, the work touches on witchcraft, including the account of a heretic monk condemned for practicing magic (Thorndike, History of Magic and Experimental Science Vol. 3, 21).
