Thurston, Howard. Five pieces of Thurston ephemera. Including three postcards, one advertising Thurston’s sponsorship of Swift products and two advertising an appearance at the Olympic Theatre; together with a reproduction 8 x 10” photograph of Thurston’s portrait stamped “Guest Magic Service” (Leslie Guest) on the verso and a later cassette tape of Jane Thurston singing “Daddy was a Hocus Pocus Man.” Condition varies, but generally good. Thurston sponsored Swift & Co. products late in his career, appearing on the radio to advertise the company, and ostensibly, his own shows. While small advertising premiums and booklets published by Swift with Thurston’s image are relatively common, other material from the alliance between the magician and the meat packing company, including the postcard offered here, are encountered much less frequently.
