Spanish Monte Dealing Box. Maker unknown, ca. 1890. Similar to a faro dealing box, but used for the game Spanish Monte, which was popular during the Mexican War (1846-1848) and in cities along the Rio Grande and San Francisco during the gold rush. Excellent.
