Thompson, Clifford. The Closed Fist and Dance of Waiters. London, ca. 1920s. Two watercolor illustrations created for Will Goldston. In the first, a bottle of beer appears from a closed fist after being shot at by a ray gun (7 x 10”); in the second, by way of bringing the show to intermission, glasses of beer are drawn from the chests of dancers (8 x 10 ”), stamped Will Goldston Ltd. Goldston’s shows were sometimes sponsored by breweries, during which these illusions were probably utilized. Both very good.
