[Mahatma] Original oversized pen-and-ink artwork for the cover of Mahatma magazine. Artist unknown, ca. 1902. 17 ½ x 22". Elaborate art nouveau illustration replete with devils, scrollwork and intricate shading which adorned the outer wrapper of the cover of Mahatma for years. Lightly toned and corners chipped (not affecting image), linen backed. Unique. Mahatma was the first American periodical devoted to the subject of magic and magicians. Founded by George H. Little and published by the Martinka brothers, T. Francis Fritz (Frank Ducrot) later became its editor.
