Chris and Pat Shatsby (American, 20th century). "Kiva Encantada", cast and patinated bronze, signed and titled to edge of base. A kiva being an underground chamber used by male Pueblo Indians for religious rites, a Brutalist bronze sculpture in form of a hollow sphere with round aperture to top capped by overlapping wide bands of bronze with polished bronze ladder forms descending from four sides, the globular body with many piercings, reticulations, and protrusions of organic form, the whole with verdigris finish and mounted to a plinth of two parallel bronze rectangular blocks. Overall approximate height 14.5", diameter of sphere 10.75".
