English, circa 1775. A George III satinwood and rosewood marquetry inlaid demilune console after a design by Robert Adam, the cross-banded top elaborately inlaid having demilune fan patera to the back and centered to the front with arabesque vine scrolls and classical urn flanked by recumbent griffins on a gadrooned bracket issuing bellflower swags joining inlaid urns on brackets and ending with a recumbent griffin on gadrooned bracket. The conforming frieze inlaid with bellflower swags joining classical patera medallions and raised on square tapered legs further inlaid with husk trails headed with patera medallions. Approximate height 34", width 46", depth 19.75". Provenance: Lord Samuel of Wych Cross, Sotheby's London, November 17, 1989 as Lot 91, Sotheby's Important English Furniture, European Ceramics and Decorations New York Friday October 23, 1998 and documented in the above auction catalog on page 178, Lot 391 whereby acquired by Mrs. Dorothy Edwards, Atlanta, Georgia.
