English, circa 1760. A fine George III period mahogany and needlework settee having a gadrooned carved crestrail above seven vertical floral carved and pierced splats enclosing circular rosettes, the outswept molded arms carved with guilloche enclosing the serpentine needlework covered seat, raised on front chamfered legs untied by a box stretcher. Approximate height 38", width 58.4" (arm to arm), seat depth 24", seat height 17". Provenance: Property from the Estate of Dr. Woody Cobbs & Mrs. Honor Cobbs, Atlanta, Georgia. Purchased from Williams Interiors, Bull and Gaston Streets, Savannah, Georgia 31401on October 4, 1969. Paperwork indicates that the settee was from the Estate of the late Isabel Whitney from Frank Partridge, purchased from Gordon Langley Hall of 56 Society Street Charleston.
