Joseph Hidley (New York, 1830-1872) Basket of Fruit, c. 1864 Signed "Joseph Hidley" l.r. Oil on wood panel, formerly an architectural panel, 21 1/2 x 12 in., in a period ripple-molded frame. Condition: Cleaned, two butterfly joints on reverse. Provenance: Anthony Picadio, Brock Gallery of Art, Massachusetts. Literature: This painting is illustrated and discussed as plate 25 in the catalog for Joseph Hidley Folk Artist, a 2019 exhibition at the Albany Institute of History and Art. In the catalog entry, it is reported that this panel was installed in the space under a window "in the John and Sarah Abbott house, located on Route 2 between Eagle Mills and Clum's Corners, New York."
