Two Jean Puiforcat (French, 1897-1945) Sterling Silver Vases, Paris, 1927-28, marked on the bottom "Jean E. Puiforcat" with French hallmarks, ht. 5 in., approx. 23.4 troy oz. Provenance: Property of a New York collector. Confirmed to be Puiforcat by Hermes Maison | Saint-Louis | Puiforcat, Paris Archive Department which has the original drawings on file, dated from 1927-1929, and by visual inspection of stamps via digital images. Note: Jean Elysée Puiforcat was a French silversmith, sculptor, and designer. Miller's Antiques Encyclopedia calls Puiforcat the "most important French Art Deco silversmith." Work by Puiforcat is held in the collections of the Cooper-Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, National Design Museum, and the Victoria & Albert Museum. Estimate $20,000-30,000 Two small indentations to the side of one vase. Light surface scratches to both vases. Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
