Two Gilt Damascene Iron Boxes with Hinged Covers, Japan, Meiji period, a rectangular trinket box on four bracket feet, decorated with checkered meander pattern, the gilt interior with incised bamboo, "Kuma" character mark on base, with wood stand, 1 3/4 x 4 1/8 x 2 7/8; and a small rectangular pillbox on four bracket feet, decorated with a dragon on top and a band of foliate vine scroll design around sides, the interior with incised landscape, "Yoshi" character mark on base, 7/8 x 1 3/8 x 1 5/8 in. Estimate $300-500 minor gilt loss, metal tarnishing with spotty corrosion marks, pill box without a foot. Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
