Nelson Augustus Moore (American, 1824-1902) Dark Bay, Lake George Signed "NAMoore/84" l. r., identified and titled on a label from Vose Galleries of Boston affixed to the reverse. Oil on canvas, 12 x 21 in. (30.5 x 53.3 cm), framed. Condition: Lined onto a rigid surface, scattered retouch. Provenance: The Stebbins family collection, Massachusetts. Estimate $1,000-1,500 The lining is adhered with wax and a solid support (aluminium?) is sandwiched between the old and new canvas. There are strokes of retouch to the sky near the upper corners, plus dots of retouch in the immediate foreground (see UV images). The frame is 14 3/4 x 24 1/2 x 1 1/2 in.
