Harry Jackson (American, 1924-2011) Peon Dancers Monogrammed "HJ" with the J reversed, numbered "2/12" and with an incised foundry mark "T. V/ITALY" in the bronze base, incised "LR.T.V." in the bronze on the underside. Bronze with brown patina, height 10 1/4 in. (26.0 cm). Condition: Dust and dirt to interstices. N.B. Harry Jackson loved music and the rhythm of dancing. In early 1959 he remarked that images of dancers vied for his attention with cowboy subjects. He wrote, "I shall do them both and yet learn the secret of how they can join and become united in a larger vision." In 1960 he began a series of dancing and singing figures in bronze. The foundry mark "T.V./Italy" refers to the Vignali-Tommasi foundry in Pietrasanta, where Harry Jackson worked with Aldo Vignali to cast his earliest bronzes.
