Charles-Théodore Frère (French, 1814-1888) An Arab Encampment Signed "TH. FRÈRE." l.l., identified on a label from Mathaf Gallery, Ltd., London, affixed to the reverse. Oil on panel, 6 3/4 x 15 in. (17.1 x 38.1 cm), framed. Condition: Small surface loss (1/8 in.) to sky c.l., possible old retouch in the form of a vertical line to far right edge. Provenance: Christie's New York, 19th C. European Paintings, Drawings, Watercolors & Sculpture, March 1, 1990, Sale 7010, Lot 8, through to the current owner. Estimate $4,000-6,000 Framed dimensions 11 x 19 1/2 x 1 1/2 in.
