Millard Sheets (American, 1907-1989) Seaside Horse Pasture Signed and dated "Millard Sheets 1934" in pencil l. r. Watercolor and graphite on paper/board, sight size 16 1/2 x 29 1/4 in. (41.9 x 74.3 cm), framed. Condition: Scattered pale foxing, not examined out of frame. Estimate $2,500-3,500 Frame dimensions: 25 x 37 1/2 x 1 in. Frame was opened during previews. Sheet size is 17 1/4 x 30 1/2 inches, heavy, somewhat stiff watercolor paper with Arches watermark, deckle edges on sides. Pale tan spots overall in sky, more pronounced on the upper right, which appear to be foxing. Mat burn along u.r edge. Three tack holes evenly spaced along the bottom edge with pale circles on the front where the tack heads covered the paper. Hinged to the back mat in two places on the top edge of the reverse. Reverse with some adhesive residue along the upper center edge, a lightly drawn rectangle in pencil in the upper left corner, scattered soiling and paint smudges.
