Sarah "Sallie" Toohey (1872-1941) for Rookwood Pottery Matte Glaze Vase, Cincinnati, Ohio, 1905, glazed earthenware decorated with dragonflies, impressed signature, date, and number to underside, "Flame Mark/951C/ST," ht. 10 1/2, dia. 4 in. Note: Toohey was born in Cincinnati and worked at Rookwood from 1887 until 1931. The majority of her tenure was spent overseeing glazing in both the architectural department and the vase department. Pieces decorated by Toohey are considered to be fairly rare. Estimate $700-900 ****UPDATE: There is a tight crack that starts at the rim and descends to the body of the dragonfly in flight.**** Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
