Scrimshaw-decorated Whalebone Covered Box, 19th century, the box constructed of wood but entirely covered in sections of applied whalebone, the removable top centering a spreadwing eagle with military and patriotic emblems and lettered in part "VICKSBURG," the facade and rear panels of the box decorated with paddlewheelers, the ends with mountainous harbor scenes, the interiors with black lacquer, ht. 4, wd. 7, dp. 5 1/2 in.
