Jatin Das (Indian, b. 1941) Figure in Orange Line Signed and dated "JATIN DAS '70" l.l., signed, inscribed, dated, and titled "JATIN DAS/C.5 NIZAMUDDIN/EAST/N. DELHI-13/INDIA/...1970/..." on the reverse. Oil on canvas, 52 x 40 in. (132.0 x 101.6 cm), framed. Condition: Scattered minor abrasions. Estimate $2,000-3,000 There is a 19 x 3 inch canvas patch to the reverse, possibly to repair a vertical tear that runs from the round green element at upper center down through the horizontal band of red/orange. Under uv examination, there seems to be retouch to the red/orange area, but it is uncertain how much retouch may lie in the green area (the green pigment seems to fluoresce naturally). The area of fluorescence at lower right corresponds to an incision in the paint that reveals the underpainted green pigment -- this seems to be original to the painting. Frame dimensions: 53 x 41 x 1 in. Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging. Any condition statement given, as a courtesy to a client, is only an opinion and should not be treated as a statement of fact. Skinner shall have no responsibility for any error or omission.
