Spanish Colonial (Cusco) School, 19th Century Saint Rose of Lima with the Child Jesus Unsigned. Oil on canvas mounted to panel, sight size 28 x 19 1/2 in. (71.5 x 50.0 cm), in a carved frame. Condition: Vertical creases/lines probably due to surface cracks in the mounting panel, mounting bubbles, retouch, abrasions, surface losses and grime. N.B. Pope Clement X canonized Isabel del Flores y del Olivia under the name of St. Rose of Lima on April 2, 1671. She was the first native saint of the New World. She joined the Third Dominican Order, but her parents prohibited her from life in a convent. Instead she lived a secluded life at home, caring for destitute children and the elderly.
