Pair of George I Walnut, Beech, and Marquetry Side Chairs, England, early 18th century, shaped crest rails, pierced splats with shell and scroll inlay, slip seats with flame-stitch needlework, aprons with conforming inlay, set on cabriole legs with pad feet, ht. 42 1/2, seat ht. 18 1/2, wd. 20, dp. 18 1/2 in. Provenance: Rogers Fund, 1910 Metropolitan Museum of Art (deaccessioned); Christie's New York, December 14, 2015, Lot 112. Estimate $2,000-3,000 Scattered worming, some returns replaced, one with crude repair at join of crest rail and stile, one with slip seat frame replace, one with partly replaced slip seat frame and worm damage to the remaining earlier element.
