Vallee, Rudy (1901-1986) NBC Chimes and Striker, c. 1929-1932. Wooden box with four mounted chimes and hammer; Vallee's pioneering musical variety radio program was broadcast from Studio 8H on NBC from 1929 to 1932, during that time period, NBC used a three-note chime to serve as a half-hour interval signal to affiliate stations; on D-Day and other important occasions, an extra C-note was added to alert upcoming news of importance; mechanical chimes were introduced c. 1932; this set of chimes comes with a letter of provenance from Vallee's nephew, from whom it descends.
