New Haven Arms Volcanic Carbine, c. 1857-60, .41 caliber, serial number 80, walnut stock with brass buttplate, brass receiver with a 3/16-in. "33" stamped on the bottom, octagonal barrel marked on the top flat "NEW HAVEN CONN. PATENT FEB. 14, 1854," barrel lg. 21, overall lg. 39 in. Provenance: Property from a New York City and Harpswell, Maine, estate. Acquired by the grandfather of the current owner. Estimate $8,000-10,000 Some dings and nicks in the stock, some patina on the receiver, barrel is a plum brown color, bore has very minor pitting and strong rifling. A more detailed assessment by J.R.
