Inlaid Mahogany Card Table, New Ipswich, New Hampshire, area, c. 1811-15, the serpentine front and straight sides above shaped corners and inlaid skirt joining reeded swelled legs, refinished, (imperfections), ht. 29 1/2, wd. 35 1/4, dp. 17 1/2 in. Provenance: This card table was likely made in New Hampshire, on or about the occasion of the 1810 marriage of Honorable Samuel Batchelder (1784-1879) to his wife Mary (1790-1869), both of New Ipswich, New Hampshire. They later moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts. The table was purchased by the consignor in Newport, Rhode Island, c. 1957. Note: Several labels on the inside of the skirt indicate history in the Batchelder family, including a jelly label inscribed "For Samuel Francis Batchelder/Pair of card tables were bought for/Grandma B. about 1811 or 1815." Estimate $800-1,200 Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
