Ten Charlie Meaker Glasses and Three Cowdy Glass Workshop Lead Crystal Mugs, England, c. 1990, six glasses in white spiral, four glasses in blue-green spiral, two black-rimmed and handled mugs and one pink-rimmed and handled mug, approx. ht. 6 1/4 in. Note: Charlie Meaker received his BA in Ceramics from Montana State and an MA from the Royal College of Art, London, before going on to work as a designer for Rosenthal Studio Line, Selb, West Germany. His work has been exhibited throughout Europe and the United States. Cowdy Glass Workshop produced contemporary glassware with an accent on color. Resident designer Pauline Solven achieved international recognition for her own studio glass work, and her production designs received Britain's Design Council Award. Cowdy's glassblowers fashioned the molten glass by combining the traditional skills of the glassmaker with the new techniques of studio glass. Each piece is made and fully finished while it is hot producing a very strong rim resistant to chipping. Estimate $20-200 Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
