Pair of Victorian Britannia Standard Silver Pilgrim Flasks, London, 1892-93, George Fox, maker, with a compressed pear-form body, applied female masks joined by suspended chains on either side, and an engraved armorial to the center, ht. 16 in., approx. 189.3 troy oz. N.B. The design for these flasks is closely related to the design of the 1710 pilgrim flask by Pierre Platel (1659-1719), currently in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London (museum no. M.854&:2-1927). A larger example of this same form was exhibited at the 1862 International Exhibition in London (Sotheby's Sale L12303, July 8, 2015, Lot 8). Estimate $10,000-15,000 Scattered minor pinprick dents, and nicks to surface. Surface abrasions particularly to areas where the chain rests. One with larger, shallow, linear (approx. 1 inch long) dent to body. The other with several small (less than 1/2 inch) deeper dents and a slight wobble to foot (no evident damage to foot rim). Loops connecting chain to each side are unmarked and bent out of alignment. Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
