Rare W. & L.E. Gurley Engineer's Transit with Theodolite Axis, Troy, New York, c. 1886-1900, engraved silvered dial marked as above, dual vernier and spirit levels, 11-in. scope rests in a cradle with wye supports so the telescope may be removed and rotated end for end, housed in its original box with interior label, ht. 13 in. Provenance: The collection of William H. Skerritt. Note: Gurley offered the theodolite axis in their manual from 1855 to 1890. According to Mr. Skerritt the Charles E. Smart collection offers the only other known example. Estimate $1,000-1,500 Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
